Daniel Jones, Giants QB, Addresses 49ers’ Contract Critique

The 49ers didn’t hold back in poking fun at Daniel Jones during and after their commanding 30-12 victory over the New York Giants last Thursday night. San Francisco’s defense held Jones to a mere 137 passing yards, no touchdowns, and intercepted him once on 22-of-32 passing attempts. Post-game, several defensive players didn’t hesitate to criticize Jones for his lackluster performance and brought up his hefty four-year, $160 million contract extension signed in March.

In response to the 49ers’ comments, Jones stated, ‘Yeah, I saw it. I’m focused on what we’re doing here with these guys and trying to get back on track.’Giants QB Daniel Jones Reacts to 49ers’ Contract Critique – NBC Sports Bay Area
49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw was among the most outspoken, telling the San Francisco Chronicle’s Mike Silver, ‘A lot of people who make all that money don’t even deserve it.’
Cornerback Charvarius Ward chimed in, saying, ‘Yeah, $40 million [per year] is a lot of money.’
Jones, however, kept his response brief in the Giants’ locker room on Thursday, preferring to concentrate on their upcoming showdown against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
‘They won,’ Jones acknowledged. ‘They’ve got good players on defense, and they won. We’re focused on us, focused on what we’re doing here.’
The start of the season hasn’t been promising for Jones, who has thrown twice as many interceptions (4) as touchdowns (2) and endured 12 sacks in three games, including twice against the 49ers last week.
Considering the 49ers’ reputation and their performance in the previous game, their defense has earned the right to talk trash as much as they’d like.
